MACE RICHARDS
Mace Richards has served a colourful fifty-two year apprenticeship in the industry. Selected as face of Tonka Toys aged five, at fifty-five, he played Santa in the Christmas sales campaign for South Africa’s biggest ecommerce retailer, takealot.com. He recently fronted the Northern Rail advertising videos as well as the BT Sports Box nation campaign with Daniel Dubois. His distinctive and idiosyncratic persona adapts to a diverse variety of roles, from the Fringe and interactive theatre to the West End, and from outlandish appearances on prime time TV, to art-house and feature films.
In his twenties, Mace was a street performer, winning the Alternative Arts Street Festival in spoken word. He did a season as a stuntman in Phantasialand and performed in two Kirov Ballet productions at the Royal Opera house.
Mace was a founding member of the Showdown Theatre Company, whose mission was to revive lost masterpieces and breath new life into the classics. Showdown toured stately homes in the south of England performing an original adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic Far From The Madding Crowd, with Mace as Gabriel Oak.
Mace worked with Antonia Bird in Rehab, Philip Humm in The Last Faust and Sergio Caballero in I Am Anna and their latest collaboration Telephone. His television credits include Flash Harry in Eastenders, Banished by Jimmy McGovern.
In 2018 Mace performed Karl Marx at the book launch of Marx’s London in Beijing, published by the Central Party School - the all powerful brain of the Chinese Communist Party - to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx’s birth. Mace is currently working on Howard Zinn’s one-man show Marx In Soho.
